About this firmware update
This download provides software for upgrading D40X A firmware to v1.01.
The following issues has been resolved in A firmware version 1.01.
With firmware Ver. 1.00 the number of images that could be captured (battery performance) when an EN-EL9a was used was less than when an EN-EL9 was used. By upgrading A firmware to Ver. 1.01, EN-EL9a performance is maximized so that more images can be captured (battery performance) when an EN-EL9a is used than when an EN-EL9 is used.
Number of shots possible (battery performance) with EN-EL9a (1,080 mAh)
- Single-frame shooting mode: Approximately 510 shots (with testing according to CIPA standards*)
- Continuous shooting mode: Approximately 2,400 shots (with testing according to Nikon standards*)
*See the D40X user’s manual for details on test conditions.
How to confirm your cameras current firmware version
If the latest firmware versions are already installed on your D40X, you need not proceed with download or installation of this Firmware Upgrade. Current firmware versions can be verified from the Firmware version item in the camera's setup menu.
1.Turn the D40X on.
2. Press the MENU button and select Firmware version from the setup menu. The camera's firmware version will be displayed.
3. Turn the D40X off.
Quick guide for download and installing this firmware update
Power the camera from AC adapter unit or use a fully charged battery.
1. Download the firmware file from the link below.
2. Double click the downloaded F-D40X-V101W.exe file which will create a folder titled D40X Update. this folder will contain the A40X0101.bin firmware file.
3. Turn the camera on, press the "Menu" button, select the SETUP menu and then select "CSM/Setup menu". Select the "Full" menu option and press OK.
4. Format an approved memory card in the camera.
5. Connect D40X to your computer (in MSC Mass Storage USB mode) or use a SD Card Reader.
6. Copy the downloaded 'A40X0101.bin' (A firmware) file to the top level of the memory card.
7. Disconnect the camera from the computer (if using an SD card reader then insert the memory card to the camera)
8. Turn the camera on, press the "Menu" button, select the SETUP menu and then select "Firmware Ver".
9. Select "Version Up" and follow the camera's on-screen menus. Do not turn the camera off during upgrade.
10. When a message displays that the upgrade is complete, turn the camera off.
11. Re-format the memory card.
